About

Alexander Heath

My name is Alex, and I am a Lawyer and Notary in the Province of Ontario, Canada.

Brockville is my wife’s home town. We have lived here with our four children since 2007. Brockville is part of the Thousand Islands, which spans parts of Upstate New York and Eastern Ontario. Family keeps me very busy, though I manage to stay involved in other things. I also enjoy being part of the local theatre guild. The last time I was on stage, I played “Felix” from the classic play “The Odd Couple”.

Travel is a favourite pastime. It helps me to understand different cultures, including my own. It also helps me to practice my Spanish and French. For example, we lived in Guanajuato, Mexico for a school year, just after the birth of our third child. I also took a youth group to Costa Rica once, and lived with an organic farming community. During law school, my family and I spent a summer in Berlin, and then Lille, in France. There I studied the law of the European Union and international law. Here at home, I am mindful of the peace and prosperity in which we live. For this reason, I work with a local refugee settlement group, advising on immigration to Canada.

I earned my law degree (JD) in Mississippi, and my MBA in Ottawa. Before this, I was a financial planner and was licensed to sell stocks, bonds, life insurance, and mutual funds. Around the same time, I helped non-profit groups raise money through planned giving. I also assisted several housing cooperatives with the financing and development of affordable housing.

I enjoy helping clients—people and organizations—with complex problems and challenges. I like to simplify things, and figure out the critical parts. Once I know the client’s goals, I can think creatively about how best to reach them. Finally, I work hard to explain everything in language that is easy to understand.
