Notaries and Commissioners of Oaths in Leeds-Grenville

Lawyers in Ontario can witness your signature as a Commissioner of Oaths or as a Notary, if necessary. Some people besides lawyers can also witness your signature as a Commissioner of Oaths but not as a Notary. You can find a Commissioner of Oaths in just about every law office; and in some places, like Brockville and Prescott, you may find a Commissioner of Oaths at city hall or your MPP’s office. (Hint: just google “Leeds Grenville Commissioner of Oaths”)

People sometimes call us for a Notary, when all they really need is a Commissioner of Oaths. And sometimes they don’t need a Notary or a Commissioner of Oaths to witness their signature; just a regular “Witness”–someone 18 years or older who is not directly related to you or a party to the contract.

A Notary costs more than a Commissioner of Oaths, and a Commissioner of Oaths costs more than a Witness, who can witness your signature for free. So be mindful of this when you need someone to witness your signature on a document. If you are unsure of who exactly must witness your signature, just give us a call.
